More West Coast

Happy New Year! The first post of 2013! Ahh, like the new car smell, how satisfying to start a new year with some new plans and some old plans. While I am a huge fan of to do lists, I'm not one for January resolutions. For some reason, many years of school rewired the calendar in my brain, making September feel more like the start of a new year. That's usually when I set out with my biggest plans for the next 12 months.

As a late Christmas present, I recently got to take a short boat day trip up to Bamfield, BC. It's a place I've wanted to visit for some time, partly because it's the end point of the West Coast Trail, which is a 7 day hike that I have big dreams of doing in the next few years. Also I have heard a lot about Bamfield from some friends of mine who studied at the marine research centre that's based there. The visit was short but sweet, and though I didn't get a chance to see inside the research buildings (it's designed to look like a giant clam, how cool!) I did make it out to Brady's beach for some views of the Pacific.
